With an introduction read by Max Hastings. Bomber Command’s offensive against the cities of Germany was one of the epic campaigns of the Second World War.
More than 56,000 British and Commonwealth aircrew and 600,000 Germans died in the course of the RAF’s attempt to win the war by bombing. The struggle began in 1939 with a few score primitive Whitleys, Hampdens and Wellingtons, and ended six years later with 1,600 Lancasters, Halifaxes, and Mosquitoes razing whole cities in a single night. Max Hastings traced the developments of area bombing using a wealth of documnets, letters, diaries, and interviews with key surviving witnesses. Bomber Command is his classic account of one of the most controversial struggles of the war. Max Hastings, author of over 20 books, has been editor of the Daily Telegraph and the Evening Standard. He has received many awards for his journalism and was knighted in 2002.

Thanks for all the great WWII books!
Is it possible to share with us an upgraded (64kbps) copy of Antony Beevor’s The Second World War? It’s long long book…

Thank You for this.
Anything about RAF Bomber Command would be Appreciated, esp about the EATS(BCATP)in Canada or the RAAF IN Europe.
My Great Uncle flew with the RAAF and after being trained in Australia and Canada was killed on his 70th operation of his second tour with 617 RAF Squadron in January 1945 (Pilot).
Lest We Forget.
NB His Dad was in France in 1917 with the AIF (as was his brother and cousin),he was wounded and died from those wounds just before 1939.
His cousin re enlisted in 1925 with the RAN and was Killed in November 1941 on board HMAS Sydney by which time he was a Petty Officer.

Anything by Max Hastings is great.
While written in something like 1979 (and thus benefitting from many veteran interviews), this version has Max’s new introduction from 35 years later.
