@BigFinish, for those who sleep through their civics classes, you really do need to finish that statement.
“America is NOT a Democracy, it is a Republic”
In a Democracy, the people elect their leader, in a Republic, the states elect the leader. Which is exactly what the electoral college does, whether you like the results or not.
I’m not a fan of Trump, but I do wonder what these 3 authors would be doing if they didn’t have something to cry about.

Oh hell - yet another waste of effort trying to explain why America voted for anybody that was not a corrupt Clinton.
hardworker55337 nailed it - we are a REPUBLIC.
Our electoral system was designed to prevent one or two cities or states deciding who our leader is. While the system has been subverted and corrupted a great deal throughout history it was great to see it work the way it is supposed to work this time around.

@dv891 & @loonboyx, too bad the American presidential elections aren’t a popularity contests. The rules don’t favor either party, it’s not a rigged system.
It may not be a good system, I think it was Jefferson who said that it wasn’t perfect but the best they could devise, but it is the system in place. All it takes is a constitutional amendment to change it, or like Conneticut which has already passed a law that says their electoral votes will be put to whichever candidate wins the popular vote.
Seriously though, if you want Trump to lose the 2020 elections, all it takes is to run a better candidate. A slug could have beaten Trump in the 2016 elections, he is that unfit for office, but it speaks volumes that he won over an “experienced” politician.
